Those who support a project like the SW BRT don’t feel a need to criticize the project or speak up. They see a project that will benefit them, and they are looking forward to it’s arrival. If there’s little to criticize, there’s little to say. Because of this, good projects often have silent support.
The SW BRT project has come under attack by a small group of individuals living in the area. They are not a representative sample of those that stand to gain the most from the transitway, nor are they a representative sample of how those living in the area feel.
Nevertheless, their voices are being disproportionately listened to and heard by decision makers. We need people to visibly and vocally show their support for the SW BRT in order for it to succeed.
The Southwest Transitway project will bring a new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to Southwest Calgary, improving transit service and providing more travel alternatives for the area. The new southwest BRT will run from Downtown Calgary to Woodbine and provide direct transit connections to major destinations such as Glenmore Landing, Heritage Park, Rockyview Hospital, Mount Royal University, Lincoln Park, Currie Barracks, Marda Loop and the Southland Leisure Centre.
Via the City of Calgary.
The BRT will bring important transportation access to underserved areas of the city. Neighbourhoods with high concentrations of students, seniors, and differently abled Calgarians will have new, accessible options for commuting and travelling around their city. Everyone deserves access to affordable and efficient public transit in their community.
